Last year I steered away from including the short films in my Oscar Challenge just because they are impossible to get ahold of. Though it will not be considered in the countdown of films left for viewing, I will include any that I come across. “Day & Night” just happened to be at the beginning of “Toy Story 3”, so therefore, I had a chance to see it.
“Day & Night” is a comical little six minute short with a moral at the end. With no dialogue and miming from the reverse-silhouette characters, they discover their differences. Though people have fun during the day, sun bathing and pool parties, the night life is just as beautiful, with fireworks and Vegas lights.
Ultimately, I will need to see the other shorts before passing judgment, but in the most general of terms, I would not feel bad were this short to win on Oscar night.
