JULY 12TH, 2011 |
Seeing as I missed last weeks new releases, I figured I would combine everything in this week’s edition. Last week was nothing but small titles, but they were all highly recommended films. “Hobo with a Shotgun”, described as a “Canadian action exploitation film”, is what I look forward to watching the most. “13 Assassins”, a period samurai film based on a true story, looks extremely promising. “Of Gods and Men”, a French film about monks, rounds out last week’s releases, which took home the Grand Prix prize at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

This week had a few bigger titles than the previous week. “The Lincoln Lawyer” (3.5 Stars) starring Michael McConaughey as a lawyer that works out of his car was actually quite intriguing. Based on the book by Michael Connelly, the film also stars Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei, Josh Lucas, and William H. Macy. “Insidious” is the other big title this week, starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne in what is described (lightly of course) as the scariest film since “The Exorcist”. “Miral” is another title I look forward to this week, touting the lines of terrorism in school.
“My Dog Tulip” uses some very unique animation to get its adult story off the ground, with voices from Christopher Plummer and Vanessa Redgrave. Reading the description of “Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives” makes this film sound extremely odd, but interesting none-the-less. And lastly, “White Irish Drinkers” written and directed by John Gray explores two brothers living in Brooklyn in 1975 and their night at a Rolling Stones concert.

If you were/are a fan of “Boy Meets World”, the sixth season finally hit DVD. With one more season left to hit DVD, if you are collecting them, you can finally own them all. The same goes for the newest season of “Entourage” with season seven. With the final season starting this month, one cannot pray hard enough for a feature film to come out of the series.
