If there is one song to epitomize the Halloween season, it would have to be my favorite of the Marilyn Manson collection, a remake of a 1983 song by Eurythmics entitled “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This). Though the original song was primarily an upbeat and driving melody, Marilyn Manson slows the tempo and adds his creep factor to the music to make it truly disturbing. Add a bass drone guitar, wailing out the chords, and this song instills in me what the October haunting season is all about.

Released on an EP entitled “Smells Like Children,” many attribute this song to Marilyn Manson’s massive success, especially on the MTV network. The song is in several films, including “Gamer” (2009), “Trick ‘r Treat,” and my personal favorite, the 1999 remake of “House On Haunted Hill.”
