As much as I admire the women that made “Bridesmaids” possible, a Judd Apatow produced comedy has little to no possibility of being nominated for an Academy Award. The fact that it is being considered is grounds enough impressive, but a comedy at the Oscars is very rare. I can maybe justify the screenplay gaining a nomination simply because it was very well written, but as the competition grows tight for Best Original Screenplay, a comedy will be the first one weeded out. But who knows, if the women Academy members feel like representing, this could easily squeak in somehow.
