If I have learned anything over the years of watching the Academy Awards, it is to never count anything out. “The First Grader” may not fit the high standards that are normally placed on nominated films of the year, but as I stated in a previous post, dark horses are known to squeak into the awards ceremony all the time. All it takes is enough Academy members to throw in a vote and there the film is, nominated for an Oscar.
