[16 OUT OF 46 FILMS REMAINING]-[14 DAYS TO OSCARS]

With “The Adventures Of Tintin” out of the picture in the Best Animated Feature category, its replacement as runner-up against “Rango” was left wide open. With two questionably received animated foreign films and “Kung Fu Panda 2”, the clear second place finisher seems to be “Puss In Boots”. Personally, “Rango” fails to live up to the hype and offers little explanation as to why it is so well received, but with all the attention it has garnered through the awards season and with no Spielberg directed “Tintin” to offer an admirable competitor, “Rango” is the clear winner this year.

“Puss In Boots” is a humorous cat adventure, following Antonio Banderas’ character from the “Shrek” films through his origin story. The original “Shrek” did win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2001 (the first ever Animated Feature award) beating out “Monsters, Inc”. So, counting out “Puss In Boots” completely would be ill-advised, but I would be quite surprised if it won over the powerhouse in “Rango”.
