JUNE 12TH, 2012

If you didn’t see Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows in theaters for some reason, you can now enjoy it from the comfort of your own home. I went out and purchased it right away to add to my collection and interestingly enough, it isn’t director Guy Ritchie doing the Movie-In-Movie commentary, but the brilliant Holmes himself, Robert Downey Jr. Comparable to the original Sherlock Holmes, this sequel packs the same punches with some astounding visual effects throughout.

Ghost Rider’s sequel, Spirit Of Vengeance also gets a release this week, although many question whether a sequel was necessary. The visual effects look much more updated in this version but I still can’t get the horrible trailer, ending with Ghost Rider peeing fire, out of my head. At lease Nicolas Cage returned and there was some reason to continue this franchise, but I’m under the impression that Cage will appear in almost anything these days.

Kate Hudson stars in A Little Bit of Heaven, playing a party girl who finds out she has cancer. Peter Dinklage takes time away from his Game Of Thrones stardom to play Vinnie, the male stripper, whom apparently the title of the film comes from. This film was literally just in theaters, so I am baffled by this new fast-track to DVD method that is happening right now, where straight-to-DVD releases are getting a theatrical release weeks before its DVD release.

In Darkness is one of the foreign films that was nominated for an Academy Award this past year and was one of the only films I missed seeing during my Oscar Challenge, so you can expect me to see this film at some point. Thin Ice looks promising despite my dislike for Greg Kinnear. And Tyler Perry fans rejoice with the release of Good Deeds, while the rest of us just roll our eyes. One of Perry’s plays gets a release as well, so double trouble for all those fans out there.

On the TV end of things, there are a few big releases. The main one for me is the final season of Entourage hitting DVD, which I actually have yet to see. Closing out with the eighth season, it will be hard to see these guys go. Also, Missing gets its first season DVD release and I will definitely be looking in to checking out this talked about show. Episodes also gets its first season release, starring Friends cast-mate Matt LeBlanc.
