Tuesday Releases: The Five-Year Engagement & Safe

SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2012

Apart from one of the major new releases this week, I have see the four other getting DVD releases this week. “Safe” is yet another Jason Statham action film in which he protects a young Chinese girl who has memorized a number for a big time gang. With several groups, including some corrupt cops, after them, it becomes the action, chase film that all Statham films become.

“The Five-Year Engagement” also gets a release this week, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt as they get engaged and face a five-year stretch of life getting in the way of their plans. Directed by Nicholas Stoller, Segel’s right hand man, director of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him To The Greek”, and co-writer of “The Muppets”, this film is a great romantic comedy with some raunchy humor involved.

David Duchovny goes from alien conspiracy-theorist, to sex addicted novelist, to goat breeding, marijuana-smoking pool cleaner in the independent film, “Goats” about a young boy from a broken family, trying to make sense in a world of selfish grown-ups and misguided futures. If you don’t get enough stoner buzz off this film, “HIGH School” should complete your fix with Arien Brody slumming to play a drug dealer coming after some kids after a bad deal with pot brownies.

Television releases are off the charts with week, with “2 Broke Girls – Season One”, starring the curvy Kat Dennings, “Bored To Death – Season Three” starring Jason Schwartzman and Zach Galifianakis, “Fringe – Season Four” with one last season to follow, “Hung – Season Three” starring Thomas Jane, “Parks and Recreations – Season Four” coinciding with the release of “The Office – Season Eight”.
