Tuesday Releases: Snow White and the Huntsman

SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2012

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is the biggest release this week, starring Charlize Theron as the witch, Kristen Stewart as Snow White, and Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman. One of my favorite films of the summer, this visually stunning fantasy film was superior in every way to the “Mirror Mirror” take on the Snow White tale. With most of the news falling on Stewart’s candid love affair with the married director, most people will only see that now, instead of the great film in front of them.

Greta Gerwig stars in “Lola Versus”, a film I look forward to catching, about a woman who is dumped before her wedding and looks to rediscover herself before she turns 30. I love Gerwig and try to catch most of her films, so having her as the star is a major selling point.

Yet another ensemble comedy is released this week as well, on top of being a film about pregnancy, which is also all the craze these days, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” gets released this week, starring most notably Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker, and Cameron Diaz. The male portion of the film will be what gets me to see this film, but I have yet to see an ensemble comedy that I actually enjoy.

Lastly, “The Loved Ones” gets a release this week, a torture film about a young girl rejected by a boy for the prom and her retaliation by tying him to a chair and performing unspeakable acts upon him. Much in the fashion of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, this film holds some high hopes from me.

“30 Rock – Season Six” and the completely series of “Terra Nova” are the major television releases this week, along with “The Big Bang Theory – Season Five”. “Elles” is probably the only small title I will look into checking out, as it is on Netflix Instant.
