BRAVE // Pixar captures the heart and humor of this fairy tale perfectly, offering uncountable memorable moments. Though not their greatest venture to date, Brave belongs in the top tier of their arsenal, with the most stunning visuals in their repertoire, a suitable score, and impressive voice acting. Portraying intense emotional reactions in animated characters has become Pixar’s staple, in turn causing great emotional responses in their audiences and by making those connects, Brave becomes much more than an animated film and I see bright futures for this film in the award seasons to come.
SAVAGES // Savages offers some of the best showings of Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch to date, as well as some undeniably strong performances from Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, and John Travolta. Without this strong cast, however, Oliver Stone’s latest would probably fall a bit flat, with a weak narrator and weak narration. Stone’s ability to intertwine dark, violent action with humor and heart is commendable and is ultimately what saves this film.
THE WATCH // “The Watch” finds a way to blend science fiction and comedy almost seamlessly, with some great comedic showings from Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn. Despite a lack of comedy in the opening of the film and too much relying on Ben Stiller as the lead, “The Watch” is visually stunning for a comedy, including some spectacular alien prosthetics and visual effects.
