The best shot “Snow White and the Huntsman” has of getting nominated for an Academy Award is through its technical aspects, specifically Costume Design, Production Design, and Visual Effects. With some of the best visual effects of the year, including Charlize Theron’s milk bath, the swarms of crows, and a liquid gold mirror mirror, there’s a fairly strong chance this film breaks into that category next to films like “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Avengers” and “Life of Pi”. Also, Costume Design cannot be denied, especially with Colleen Atwood at the helm, with an impressive nine Academy Award nominations, with three wins for “Chicago” (2002), “Memoirs of a Geisha” (2006), and “Alice In Wonderland” (2010). Ruling her out would be unwise. And do not pass up Conrad Buff, the 1997 Academy Award winning Film Editor, for his work on “Titanic”.
