Not only did Roger Ebert name “Argo” the frontrunner for Best Picture at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but tons of critics are following suit, also stating that Ben Affleck could be in the standings to win Best Director. Now, as I’m inclined to side with films I really like over films I casually like, I want to agree, but up against the likes of “Lincoln”, “Les Miserables”, and now “Zero Dark Thirty”, I am starting to feel that blanket statement slip. “Argo” could get on the board with several nominations. Best Costume Design seems like a shoe-in as does Best Adapted Screenplay. Alan Arkin’s name has been tossed around for Best Supporting Actor and even John Goodman could appear in this category. Though I will not be completely counting out “Argo”, I am doubting whether this will be Affleck’s year.
