I first fell in love with Carey Mulligan in the 2009 Academy Award nominated film “An Education”, in which she was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (she lost to Sandra Bullock for her role in “The Blind Side”).
The love continued in “Brothers”, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” and the subtle science fiction Indie, “Never Let Me Go”, in which she steals the show from Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley. And one of her greatest roles to date ended up my favorite film of 2011, “Drive”, starring alongside another favorite, Ryan Gosling. The intense kiss scene in the elevator will go down as one of my all-time favorite scenes from a film.
“Shame” was also high on my list of favorites last year, with Michael Fassbender playing Mulligan’s sex addicted brother. She plays such a hugely immense range, from singing beautifully in a classy club to being completely exposed in a shower scene and revealing how she’s just as messed up as her brother.
Now, her next role is as Daisy Buchanan in “The Great Gatsby”. If Baz Luhrman has anything to do with, Mulligan will carry this role with ease, launching her in the likes of Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet.
Carey Mulligan is already a huge draw as an actress, but as time goes on, I have a feeling she will be making huge waves in all aspects of her career, following a similar path as the renowned Michelle Williams (to which she resembles physically as well).
