The first “Despicable Me” may not have gotten nominated for an Academy Award in 2010-2011, but “Despicable Me 2” has a huge chance of getting the nod. Up against fellow animated films like “The Croods” and “Monsters University”, “Despicable Me 2” goes into the For Your Consideration section with mostly positive reviews and a box office of almost $1 billion dollars, meaning people have seen it and Academy members are likely to vote for it. With Halloween around, the amount of Minion costumes is undeniable and this should be taken into consideration when evaluating these films, as the public can be a strong determinant of what gets picked by word-of-mouth alone. Depending where Pixar’s “Frozen” lands, this could easily slide into one of the Best Animated Feature spots.
