Having supposed to released before last year’s Academy Awards, it would have been interesting to see what this film could have done. Now having released in May, “The Great Gatsby” is anything but fresh in our minds. Leonardo DiCaprio has been snubbed by the Oscars countless times and you can bet that he will not be receiving a nomination for his role as J. Gatsby “old sport”. Although he may get attention for his Scorsese venture, “The Wolf Of Wall Street” later this year, that remains to be seen. What we can hope for with “The Great Gatsby” is that it lands on the radar of Best Production Design or Best Costume Design, as it is very stylized and almost sets the standard for costume design. That will fall on how much the Academy members remember of the film and what their feelings were towards it. Although panned by many critics, the film also contained several original songs that could grab someone’s attention, but Best Original Song is always a tough egg to crack before nominations, as it almost always unpredictable. I hope to see at least one nomination come out of this film come January, but that’s still a ways away.
