With Warner Brothers backing it and the Christopher Nolan factor at play, “Man Of Steel” could make a slightly bigger impact at the Oscars than one would expect. Not to say it will land in any major categories, but there is a possibility it could garner some attention in at least Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing, but those categories are always up in the air and impossible to prediction. Visual Effects is a tough gambit these days with all the superhero films like “Iron Man 3” and “Thor: The Dark World” along with other fantasies like “Pacific Rim” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. All these films vie for the same nominations and only five will make the cut. Does “Man Of Steel” have what it takes? It probably won’t be landing many critics awards, but the aforementioned factors must all be considered.
