From the trailer alone, I want to root for Joaquin Phoenix and his role in “Her” as a man looking for connection and finding it in the robotic voice that becomes his personal assistant. With director Spike Jonze guiding him and an emotional gambit to run, there’s no telling what Phoenix can deliver. Having been nominated three times for his acting work in different film, he had originally all but retired from the spotlight, with his mockumentary “I’m Still Here”, but with that behind him and a nomination last year for his work in “The Master”, the capacity for Phoenix to land himself a nomination is huge. But he’ll face a packed Leading Man category, that is certain. “Her” could possibly bring in a Best Original Screenplay for Spike Jonze, but all of these remains to be seen until the film is screened later this month. I am looking forward to it and if it’s half as good as the trailer, it will be garnering plenty of attention.
