Will he go from being under-appreciated to having two nominations this year? I might be pulling for it. Matthew McConaughey is a force to be reckoned with and delivering two absolutely astounding performances this year, we’ll not only see him in the critics’ awards circle, but I have a feeling we’ll see his name, not just once, but possibly twice in up for contention. In “Mud”, he’s the title character, but could land a supporting credit, since the boys of the story are actually the leads. McConaughey’s performance is unlike anything we’ve seen from him and with such an enigmatic turn, it’s hard to forget him in this. That being said, the biggest thing working against this film is that it came out in the earlier part of the year, which can leave a film being easily forgotten. What it deserves is some recognition, however, even if it could grab Acting and Writing nominations, I will feel fulfilled. If McConaughey isn’t nominated for this, he’ll for sure have his name in for the Best Leading Actor for his role in “Dallas Buyer’s Club”, which also produces an unexpected and captivating turn by the talented man. Only time will tell whether “Mud” is remembered or not, but from my perspective, it better land somewhere.
