Richard Linklater and his twelve years in the making “Boyhood” take the first lead of the critics award season, getting picked now by both New York Film Critics bodies. Patricia Arquette also grabs another critic award, as does Marion Cotillard and J.K. Simmons, who both prove that they could have the wherewithal to grab an Oscar nomination. Finally, Eddie Redmayne shows up with an award for Best Actor as his performance as Stephen Hawking truly is one of the best of the year. “Birdman” picks up a few technical awards, including Best Cinematography for Academy Award winning Emmanuel Lubezski. And “Get On Up” is recognized for its stellar use of music. Now to see how far “Boyhood” and Richard Linklater’s reign will reach.
