This is the sign of a heated Oscar race; for every win that “Boyhood” receives from a film critics awards, “Birdman” comes back with its own win, this time getting Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. Patricia Arquette (“Boyhood”) is also starting to lock in her win for the Oscars, right next to J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”), both of which might end their race before the nominations even come out in January.
