And “Mad Max: Fury Road” gets on the board in a big way thanks to the Boston Online Film Critics Association, giving it the top honor of Best Picture, along with Best Director for George Miller, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Original Score. “Creed” also lands on the board, and after seeing it yesterday, I can attest to its brilliance, especially in favor of Sylvester Stallone, who lands a Best Supporting Actor award here, along with Best Actor in co-star Michael B. Jordan. Saoirse Ronan receives some more recognition for her leading role in “Brooklyn” while we better get used to calling Kristen Stewart an Academy Award nominated actress. “Spotlight” rolls in with Best Ensemble and Best Screenplay, and although this works in its favor, as the Academy can feel like they’re the ones picking “Spotlight” and not all the critics, I would much rather see some serious competition from “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Creed” come Oscar nomination time.
