Although “Spotlight” again takes the top spot, finally a different director lands in the Best Director category, giving Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“The Revenant”) a win. If he were to do so at the Oscars, he’d be in a very small club of directors that received back to back Oscars for Directing, having won last year for “Birdman.” Leonardo DiCaprio follows suit and wins for “The Revenant,” a fact that him getting nominated will be celebrated by many. Paul Dano lands here in Best Supporting Actor, but regardless of whether he lands there or in Leading, I have a feeling he might not get an Oscar nomination this year.
