THE DARKNESS || Kevin Bacon stars in the low budget horror film about a strange young boy, played by “Gotham” star David Mazouz. Sadly, the scariest thing this trailer has to offer is dirty hand prints showing up on bed sheets, walls, and a young girls mouth.
HIGH-RISE || Having meant to watch “Kill List” for quite some time now, director Ben Wheatley is now acclaimed and has moved onto this next feature film, “High-Rise,” set in a luxurious apartment in a high-tech concrete skyscraper. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, and Elisabeth Moss, this brings to life a class war with a star studded cast.
MONEY MONSTER || Jodie Foster directs George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Jack O’Connell (“Unbroken”) in this Wall Street thriller set on the sound stage of a popular investments television show hosted by Clooney. When a particular stock sees a glitch and loses a man’s entire life savings, he holds Clooney and the entire crew of the television show hostage, keeping them on the air to get the word out. The acting is great and the film rises above its one location story.
SEARCH PARTY || Yet another play on “The Hangover” idea of friends getting themselves into mischief, “Search Party” sees a friend getting stuck in Mexico with no way of getting home and his friends impossible and humorous journey to “rescue” him. The cast of Adam Pally, T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Krysten Ritter, Alison Brie, and Jason Mantzoukas is ultimately what sells me.
