DON’T BREATHE || Far from a horror classic by any means, I constantly reference the film The Collector, because of the way the plot struck me as original, with a not-so-good guy thief, breaking into a house to steal and finding himself apart of an even more sadistic man’s game. Now, “Don’t Breathe” comes off very much in the same way, with a group of young adults deciding to steal from a blind man and find themselves in a terrible nightmare at his hands. Teaming “Evil Dead” director Fede Alvarez with star Jane Levy, this duo seems to make quite the team.
THEATER
MECHANIC: RESURRECTION || The original “Mechanic”, although the plot escapes my mind, featured Jason Statham alongside Ben Foster. Now, on his own, “Resurrection” sees him teaming with Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones, as Statham partakes in a race against time to take out a list of people before the clock runs out. The catch is all the deaths have to look like accidents. Statham is far from running the course of his action roles but the likes of Alba and Jones feel like they are resurfacing from nothingness.
