MERYL STREEP
“Florence Foster Jenkins”
Meryl Streep plays Florence Foster Jenkins, an heiress whose enthusiasm for singing is so pronounced that — despite her lack of talent — she decides to give a concert at Carnegie Hall.

Who’s her competition? Obviously, you don’t get 20 Academy Award nominations if you’re not a talented actor and Meryl Streep is that and more. But for the past few years, it feels like she only get nominated because she’s so beloved and not on the merit of her performances. The fact that she got nominated for the 2014 “Into The Woods,” where she played the Witch, who could have been played by almost anyone else, is a huge give away that the Academy just votes her in because of who she is. That performance did not deserve to be recognized. At the very least, she did not get nominated for the dismal showing in “Ricki And The Flash” or I would have rioted. This year, it’s even more bittersweet because Amy Adams got bumped from the nominees for her role in “Arrival,” which was much better than anything Streep did in “Florence Foster Jenkins,” where she simply chewed the scenery and offered a strange performance in a strange film that simply could not decide what it wanted to be. In the end, this is Emma Stone Vs. Natalie Portman, and Streep is just lucky to continue piling up nominations from the Academy. Meryl holds the record for most nominations for acting, with Jack Nicholson being the closest male actor, with 12.
