FILM SYNOPSIS: After the fall of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the port city of Benghazi has become a warzone, with ex-military contractors working for the CIA tasked with protecting American diplomats. On the night of September 11, 2012, militants attack the U.S. diplomatic compound, resulting in a fierce fight and the deaths of four Americans.

What’s its competition? There’s something synonymous about Michael Bay films and Sound Mixing, as his films usually a) have plenty of opportunities for mixing sound to appropriate levels and b) get nominated in the Best Sound Mixing category at the Academy Awards. “Transformers,” “Tranformers: Revenge Of The Fallen,” and “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon” were all nominated in this category, as were Bay’s earlier films like “The Rock” and “Armageddon.” But Bay has yet to produce a win. And considering “13 Hours” was not even in talks to get any nominations, the fact that it’s nominated at all is quite baffling. Expect “Hacksaw Ridge” or even “La La Land” to take this one, as they have corresponding Best Picture nominations.
