KONG: SKULL ISLAND|| The producers of “Godzilla” and the director of “The Kings Of Summer” team up to deliver one of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2017. Academy Award winner Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston are the leading duo, the outsiders brought in on the journey to a newly discovered island where they soon find that it is all but uninhabited, with the largest of these inhabitants being the monstrous ape named Kong. There are also dinosaur-like monsters called “Skull Crawlers,” which the trailer points out with its form of comic relief: John C. Reilly’s eccentric character. Heading the expedition is an organization called Monarch, which John Goodman is apart of, while the U.S. Army, Samuel L. Jackson’s Lieutenant Colonel, plays a large role in bringing the people to the island. The visuals of the Army helicopters bring about an “Apocalypse Now” feel.  Just like in “Godzilla,” where the title monster is first made to be the villain but then the layers of the beast are slowly revealed, so it is with Kong, who it seems eventually befriends the stranded mainlanders. Interestingly enough, “Kong: Skull Island” will eventually lead to a 2020 sequel which is currently dubbed “Godzilla Vs. Kong,” as Legendary continues to kick off what they are calling their “MonsterVerse,” with a “Godzilla” sequel coming out in 2019, titled “Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.” As long as you keep giving me high caliber ensemble casts like this one and great visuals, you can definitely keep these films coming.
