BABY DRIVER|| After a four year hiatus, director Edgar Wright follows up The World’s End with what looks like his version of Drive. Baby Driver tells the story of a getaway driver named Baby (Ansel Elgort) who wants out of the life, but with a formidable Kevin Spacey calling the shots, and a crew of unfriendlies, including Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Jon Bernthal, and Eiza González, it’s definitely not as easy as just calling it a day. And when Baby meets the perfect diner waitress (Lily James of Cinderella) he makes matters worse. Despite Elgort not being one of my favorite people on the screen, Foxx, Hamm, Spacey, Bernthal, and even James look in top form. González is fairly new to the Hollywood scene, having starred in mainly Spanish language TV series, but she has been breaking through lately with the Jem and the Holograms movie that no one saw and the From Dusk Til Dawn TV series. I have a feeling this film will help ignite her American career. The style of Wright is pushed to new heights and if the film is as good as the trailer, we might be hearing Wright’s name come Oscars season.
