JUSTICE LEAGUE || At this point, I just don’t have high expectations for the DC Cinematic Universe. Man Of Steel was fine, although it felt like more of a stand-alone film, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was mindless action entertainment, and Wonder Woman literally looks like they are painting-by-numbers from the first Captain America and the way Marvel is infusing comedy into their films, despite the much darker nature that DC has been going for. You can easily do dark. Christopher Nolan did his iteration of Batman dark and The Dark Knight will likely go down as one of the best films of all-time. The new trailer for the Justice League film just looks like more of the same. Knowing that Ben Affleck walked out of directing the solo Batman film is also completely disheartening.
In Justice League, Batman (Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) are putting together a team to fight the threat of Steppenwolf (played by Ciaran Hinds) and the Parademons. The team being recruited includes the three superheroes that they discovered in Batman V Superman. The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) are the new recruits and from what we see, they are all easily on-board for the mission. Besides each of their introductions, it looks like this film will also explore The Flash/Barry Allen’s background about his father, Henry Allen (Billy Crudup), being in jail for the murder of Barry’s mother. Amy Adams returns as Lois Lane and even though he “died” in Batman V Superman, the Man Of Steel has been on promotional material for the film as well. Knowing the track record of DC advertising, it’s only a matter of time before a trailer reveals his return.
Overall, this looks like more of the same. It boasts putting its characters together, like Wonder Woman landing in front of Aquaman and Cyborg, but A) they haven’t really earned the excitement (think how amazing it was to finally see the Avengers together in that first round-about shot in the trailer for The Avengers and B) they already made a big deal about that in Batman V Superman, when it was Batman teaming with Superman and Wonder Woman. Will I see it? Yes. Will it be entertaining? Probably. But will it compare to anything Marvel’s been doing for the past decade? Most likely not.
