WONDER WOMAN || Gal Gadot’s starring role as Wonder Woman gets a final trailer, following the weekend where Chris Pine hosted Saturday Night Live. Gadot plays the sword and shield wielding Amazonian warrior princess, Diana, while Pine plays Steve Trevor, a U.S. Army pilot during WWI who enlists the help of Diana after crash-landing on her island of Themyscira, where all the women have sworn not leave. In this final trailer, we are introduced to one of the villains, Doctor Poison (Elena Anaya of The Infilitrator) , who has created a dangerous chemical being deployed by the Germans of which Trevor (Pine) has knowledge of. Trevor convinces Diana to come with him and try to stop WWI (“Millions would die, the war would never end”) to which she is met by her mother with the sentence that “if you choose to leave, you may never return,” to which Diana responds: “who will I be if I stay?” She gathers some warrior artifacts: lasso, shield, sword (Zeus’ Godkiller), and tiara, and leaves.

The big question surrounding the film as a whole, which has not been wrapped up in any of the trailers, is who will be playing Ares, the God of War. Will it be David Thewlis or Danny Huston? Many believe it’s being shrouded in secrecy because it will ultimately be a twist. What is pleasantly missing from this trailer is the humor, which sort of killed the previously trailer, tagging on a comedic ending to match the laughs that Marvel are steering towards. But the one thing DC is doing decently is making these films hold some weight with emotion, not letting comedy become the sole focus.

The trailer features a song by Imagine Dragon titled “Warriors,” which was used for the music video League of Legends 2014 World Championship and was the official theme song for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It was also used in the Insurgent television campaign, a trailer for USA Network’s Colony series, and was the theme song for WWE’s Survivor Series 2015.
