Unlike the accountants of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Jimmy Kimmel will be returning to the Academy Awards for the second consecutive year. Infamously handing out the wrong envelope at the conclusion of the broadcast last year, the accountants were responsible for Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistaking the Best Picture winner to be La La Land, when really it was Moonlight. And although the producers of La La Land took the hit in stride and Kimmel did his best to make light of a bad situation, the awkwardness ensued. Kimmel, however, will be back for the 2018 Oscar broadcast.
Kimmel provided a statement:
““Hosting the Oscars was a highlight of my career and I am grateful to Cheryl, Dawn and the Academy for asking me to return to work with two of my favorite people, Mike De Luca and Jennifer Todd. If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!”
As did AMPAS chief Cheryl Boone Isaacs:
“Jimmy, Mike and Jennifer are truly an Oscar Dream Team. Mike and Jennifer produced a beautiful show that was visually stunning. And Jimmy proved, from his opening monologue all the way through a finale we could never have imagined, that he is one our finest hosts in Oscar history.”
Kimmel is the host of his own late-night talk show, the Emmy award-winning Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC which is in its 15th Season. Kimmel recently had a baby girl with his wife Molly McNearney.
The 90th Academy Awards will air live on the ABC Television Network on Oscar Sunday, March 4th 2018. Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd will once again produce the broadcast.
