Cause of Death: Unexpected complications

Martin Landau had a career that spanned five decades, with most of his success happening 30 plus years into his career. He would get his feature film start in Alfred Hitchcock’s North By Northwest and then his television start in regular roles on series like Mission: Impossible and Space: 1999. Although he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor back-to-back years (1988 and 1989), he would not actually win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor until 1994, in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood, where he played Bela Lugosi. The film I knew him from the best was The Majestic, starring Jim Carrey, where he played an old man who took in Carrey’s character when he thinks he is his long-lost son. He would also show up in the HBO series Entourage as well as the feature film of the same title.
