Cause of Death: Apparent Suicide by Hanging
Chester Bennington, frontman for the band Linkin Park through most of career, was the definition of leaving it all on the stage. His raw, screaming voice would lay the foundation for a generation of “screamo” bands to follow, including My Chemical Romance and The Used. 2000 was the year Linkin Park got their start and I’ll always remember Chester with the dyed blonde, spiky hair with the pierced lip, singing “One Step Closer,” the band’s first ever single. Linkin Park would go on to release several more albums over the years, collaborating with the likes of Jay Z and Steve Aoki. In 2013, Chester would go on to become the stand-in lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots after Scott Weiland parted ways with the band. He would continue with them until 2015, when he returned to Linkin Park full-time. He also appeared in a hand full of films, including Crank and Crank: High Voltage starring Jason Statham and Saw 3D. Chester was a close friend of Chris Cornell’s (today was actually supposed to be Cornell’s birthday) and he even sang “Hallelujah” at Cornell’s funeral back in May. He was found dead at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California and leaves behind his wife Talinda Bentley and six children from two different marriages.
