Stream Guide: Beauty and the Beast & Gotham: Season Three

Not the best week for streaming this week. Netflix has an original documentary chronicling the behind-the-scenes life of performer Lady Gaga titled “Gaga: Five Foot Two” touting a look at the woman behind the costumes and glamour. “Kill Switch” was a sci-fi title being tossed around earlier this year starring Dan Stevens, but after seeing the trailer, I was slightly turned off of it, with it’s first-person, video game-like qualities. The coming of age film “Malena,” starring the gorgeous Monica Bellucci is available as is the Ray Winstone lead action film “The Sweeney,” where he heads an elite British police squad featuring Hayley Atwell. If you’re looking for an epic war film, Ridley Scott’s “Black Hawk Down” depicts the 1993 U.S. insurgence into Somalia which lead to some blows, starring Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Hardy just to name a few. If you’re looking for some girl-on-girl action, the Oscar nominated period piece “Carol” depicts a somewhat forbidden love between Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, while Brian De Palma’s “Passion” is more of a fatal attraction film starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace in an awkward workplace attraction. Almost winning the Academy Award for Best Picture, “La La Land” is now available, a modern day musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, which brought in 6 Oscars that year. The third season of the Batman prequel “Gotham” is available, starring Ben McKenzie as Officer Gordon facing off against the villains of the Batman universe when they were younger. And lastly, the highest grossing opening weekend this year belongs to the live action Disney adaptation of “Beauty And The Beast” starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad, which is now available on Netflix, at least until Disney comes out with their own streaming service.
