Netflix got into the spirit of the season this week, releasing a ton of horror films, new and classic, all in one fell swoop, gearing up for Friday the 13th as well as Halloween in the upcoming weeks. Most of the films on the list are that of the horror genre, including “Teeth,” which is literally a film about a young woman whose vagina has teeth. If you’re getting in the mood for the new film “Jigsaw,” which continues the “Saw” franchise, even though the last film was sub-titled: “The Final Chapter,” Netflix has put the entire series up for grabs, so the original “Saw,” the one that blew everyone’s minds and started the saga makes the list. As for films that started it all, before their were novels and films like “The Hunger Games,” which was kids killing kids, “Battle Royale” was a foreign film that saw a much more graphic, gory version of adolescence killing each other. Another classic, “Cabin Fever,” about a group of young adults staying in a cabin and experiencing a strange sickness also makes the list. In the non-horror section of the list, the Miles Teller led “Bleed For This,” about a boxer that is injured, yet works through his injury to get back to the ring, is available as is Jim Carrey’s classic comedy “Ace Venutra: Pet Detective,” which also stars Sean Young of the original “Blade Runner.” A documentary titled “Spielberg” is also available this weekend about the prolific director and how he got to where he is today. Even though he has a huge career ahead of him, it’s hard to pass up any documentary chronicling his epic career. And the last non-horror movie of the list is a Netflix Original directed by Noah Baumbach (“The Squid and the Whale” & “Greenberg”) titled “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected),” starring Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Emma Thompson. Back to the horror but continuing with the Netflix Originals, McG directed a horror movie about a murderous babysitter starring Bella Thorne. And at the top of the list and fitting for the current holiday season is Adam Wingard’s sequel to “The Blair Witch Project” titled “Blair Witch.”
