When I was a teenager, the video rental store that I frequented would often give away the used movie posters they had and loving movies as much as I did, I would take them no matter what they were. My walls were covered with posters for movies that I mostly hadn’t seen, including “Jawbreaker” and one of the movies on my list this week, “Rollerball,” starring Chris Klein (“American Pie”), LL Cool J, and Rebecca Romijn. Based on the 1975 film of the same title, this one takes the extreme sport depicted to the next level. Auteurs in film are few and far between but in my opinion, the Coen Brothers and Quantin Tarantino are a few of them working today, all of which have some films available for streaming including the Coens’ “O Brother Where Art Thou” and Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight.” Continuing the Stephen King adaptation trend of late, you can now watch the canceled Spike series “The Mist: Season One” based on the short of Mr. King’s. One of my all-time favorite directors is Tony Scott, and even though we lost him in 2012, we can still enjoy his body of work, including one of his lesser known films titled “Domino,” starring Keira Knightley and Mickey Rourke who play bounty hunters. Before the Spike Lee/John Brolin version, the original 2003 Korean version of “Oldboy” set the bar for revenge films and is probably my favorite of the Korean films that I’ve seen. Teresa Palmer stars in the strange “2:22,” which sees her with a man involved with an underlying pattern in his life that makes things happen at 2:22 everyday. If you’re looking to get your gun fix, the sequel to Keanu Reeves’ retired hitman revenge film is available, aptly titled “John Wick: Chapter Two,” which reunites him with his co-star from “The Matrix,” Laurence Fishburne and also available is the ensemble cast period jaunt about a gun deal gone wrong starring Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, and directed by Ben Wheatley (“High-Rise”) titled “Free Fire.” But the streaming series that everyone’s been waiting for all year is Netflix’s Original Series “Stranger Things: Season Two,” which sees the return of Eleven and the rest of the boys of Hawkins, Indiana, facing off against a much bigger evil.
