“Like Crazy” is one of my favorite films of all-time because of the complexity of emotions it displays between Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin who fall in love but then are forced apart when Jones’ visa is revoked. Jones displays so much of what has made her a huge star now in this role and I fell in love with her instantly in this film. Jennifer Lawrence also makes a brief appearance. Director Drake Doremus may not be a household name, but he has a way of directing that is raw and gets across every emotion, tossing you into situations and letting you wade through them. Now Felicity’s in “Rogue One” and her career will never be the same again. Much the same way Christian Bale’s career took off after his performance in “The Machinist” where he lost 63lbs for the role and then had to put it all back on to go off and play Batman for Christopher Nolan, making history while doing it. Going from the start of careers to the end, Hugh Jackman retires his role as the Wolverine in “Logan,” which is one of the best films of 2017. With the recent Disney-Fox merger, now would be the perfect time to recast that role. Jeff Bridges picks up where John Wayne left off, playing Rooster Cogburn in the Coen Brothers remake of the Western “True Grit,” to which Wayne won an Academy Award. With the awards season in full swing, we usually find that a film is only as good as its score and now with “Score: A Film Music Documentary,” we get a look behind the scenes with some of the best film-makers and composers in Hollywood today.
