Netflix’s $90 million big budget endeavor “Bright” hits it streaming service this weekend, with Will Smith playing a police officer in a world where orcs, elves and fairies co-exist with humans in the present day. David Ayer directs this gritty, action fantasy with the film actually being shortlisted for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for the 90th Academy Awards. No nominations have actually be announced yet. Bruce Lee’s son Brandon was probably best known for his role in “The Crow,” which was also the final film he performed in before his death. In the film, he plays a man that was murdered and then resurrected on the anniversary of his death to take over as the Crow, a supernatural avenger, set to take on his murders. “Justified” star Natalie Zea takes up as a phone sex operator in the film “Sweet Talk,” where she eventually starts seeing a writer that calls her. In 1998, Jerry Springer decided to take his circus to the big screen, presenting a fictionalized version of his real job as talk show host. The comedy is set behind the scenes of his show as they invite some crazy people onto their show. “Going In Style” is a remake of a 1979 film starring Lee Strasberg, Art Carney, and George Burns in which they decide to rob a bank together. This time it is Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Alan Arkin and the justification for them robbing the bank is very timely. “Boys Don’t Cry” director Kimberly Peirce takes on the idea of a staff sergeant (Ryan Phillippe) in the Army going AWOL after his tour ends but he is called to return to active duty. With the help of his friends, played by Josh Hartnett, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Abbie Cornish, he disappears and tries to find a way out of the mess. Lars Van Trier directs Nicole Kidman in “Dogville,” where she plays a hiding refugee in a small-town called Dogville where she must work for the people in town in order for them to continue to keep her hidden, despite growing frustrations on both sides. In one of David Gordon Green’s great dramas, “Undertow” tells a sort-of Cain and Abel brother tale between Josh Lucas and Dermot Mulroney, with a death to which Mulroney’s sons, one of which is played by Jamie Bell, are witness to. A very young Kristen Stewart also stars. “Mr. Brooks” sees Kevin Costner playing a businessman with a murderous alter-ego, played by William Hurt. Deciding to commit one final murder, a witness played by Dane Cook, keeps him from quitting despite a detective, played by Demi Moore, not far behind them. David Cronenberg directs Robert Pattinson in “Cosmopolis,” as he plays a billionaire taking a limo ride across the city to get a haircut and all the strange conversations and random events that take place during.
