With plenty of Oscar films to watch, it doesn’t matter that there’s not much to stream this week. Before starting the Oscar Challenge this month, I did have a chance to see “Ingrid Goes West,” in which Aubrey Plaza plays a version of a “Single White Female,” developing an unhealthy obsession with an Instagram star played by Elizabeth Olsen. The scene stealer however, however, ends up being Plaza’s love interest, O’Shea Jackson Jr., who is Ice Cube’s son and who played his father in “Straight Outta Compton.” Overall, the film is a success and is now available to stream on Hulu.

The pool of films streaming this week was so small, I included a few that had been on the list previously like “Short Term 12,” which was one of my favorite movies that year and was included on the September 8th, 2017 list when it appeared on the streaming site Fandor. Now you can see Brie Larson, before she was an Oscar winner, streaming on Amazon Prime, along with the majority of the films this week, including “Song One,” which was another film included on the August 25th, 2017 list featuring Anne Hathaway, “The Babysitters,” which probably isn’t the best film to pick in this particular climate as it’s about “a teenager who turns her babysitting service into a call girl service for married men after fooling around with one of her customers,” “Wonderstruck,” starring Julianne Moore, and “Night Moves,” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning in an indie by Kelly Reichardt. The now Oscar nominated “The Boss Baby” is not only available on Netflix, it is now available on the free service Tubi TV, if you’re looking to catch one of the Best Animated Features. There’s a horror film sequel titled “The Collection” available on Netflix, although not better than the original, still worth a viewing as it is very reminiscent of where the “Saw” series eventually devolved to. Amy Schumer teams up with Goldie Hawn to deliver “Snatched,” which is available on HBO Go while Paul Bettany stars in the unknown “Blood” which is available on Tubi TV. With the beginning of a new month next week, I am sure there will be a much better bunch of streaming movies to select from.
