PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN on HULU

Set in the 1940’s, “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women” tells the true story of Harvard psychologist and inventor Dr. William Moulton Marston, who, among being the one that perfected the lie detector test also ended up creating the iconic DC character Wonder Woman. Had Marston not created the character, Gal Gadot would not be facing the huge superhero success that she now enjoys. The story of Marston goes a bit deeper, however, as his private life ended up being just as extraordinary as his public life, as we and his wife Elizabeth shared a mutual lover in another woman. Luke Evans (“The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug”) takes on the mantle of Marston while Rebecca Hall (“Iron Man 3”) plays his wife and Bella Heathcoate (“The Neon Demon”) plays their lover, Olive Byrne.

Freddie Highmore (“Bates Motel”) and Odeya Rush (“Lady Bird”) star in an indie romantic comedy about a guy that’s down on his luck who moves back in with his parents, only to meet the girl of his dreams… who is already in a serious relationship. Personally, Odeya Rush is the get here, as her talent as an actress has been on my radar since her role in “The Giver” (2014).

With Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” having just hit home video, now’s a great time to visit another Agatha Christie classic in “Crooked House,” starring Glenn Close, Gillian Anderson, and Christina Hendricks. Like many of Christie’s story, someone has murdered the patriarch of a wealthy household and everyone is a suspect.

With Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Thomas Anderson both coming off Oscar nominations for their work in “Phantom Thread” this past year, it may be time to revisit one of their other collaborations, which also brought them Oscar attention, with “There Will Be Blood.” Although Day-Lewis missed the win this year, he actually brought home the Oscar for his role here as the oil tycoon facing impossible odds. Anderson earned three nominations, one for directing, one for writing, and one for producing.

If you’ve ever dreamed of going to Antarctica for your honeymoon, then you’re not alone, as the small indie romance movie “Red Knot” follows a newly married couple heading out on a research vessel to Antarctica as a late honeymoon. Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”) and Olivia Thirlby (“Dredd”) star.

It’s easy for me to say that without Roger Ebert, I would not be where I am today. I think it’s fair to say most people who blog about movies or who actually are employed to review movies, wouldn’t be where they are today without him. My continued love for movies can be traced back to Ebert and his career as a writer and movie critic and to this day he continues to inspire me to chase that particular dream. With that said, the documentary made about his life following his death, titled “Life Itself” can now be streamed.

Before he was starring in Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” which is a big budget action-adventure film, or starring as the young Cyclops in the “X-Men” franchise, young actor Tye Sheridan was playing a boy from rural Arkansas that is befriended by a vagrant named Mud, played by the Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey.

“Antitrust” is one of the first films I remember that truly blew my mind with its twisting, turning nature. It was my love for this film that eventually made me love M. Night Shymalan’s work. The film follows a computer coder played by Ryan Phillippe as he gets wrapped up in a dark cat-and-mouse game at the high profile company that we works for, leading to a point where he cannot trust anyone; not his girlfriend (Claire Forlani), not his co-workers (Rachael Leigh Cook), and not his Steve Jobs-like boss (Tim Robbins).

Kate Bosworth plays a much darker role than she’s known for in the thriller “Amnesiac” opposite Wes Bentley, who plays a man with memory loss who is starting to suspect that his wife, played by Bosworth, is not actually his wife.

And, in a remake of the 1971 classic starring Clint Eastwood, director Sofia Coppola (“The Virgin Suicides”) leads a ensemble cast of women in retelling “The Beguiled,” the story of an isolated all-girl’s school in the South during the Civil War. With all the men partaking in the war, the women are left to their own devices and when an injured Yankee soldier shows up, tensions, including sexual, are high. In this iteration, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, and Colin Farrell star.
