When we left Elisabeth Moss’s June/Offred in the Season One finale, she was pregnant and being hauled away in a black van. The imagery most present in the Season Two footage is June wearing a muzzle, so you can assume that the consequences that Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) promised, after the Handmaids refused to execute Janine, are in full effect. The first season was based entirely on Margaret Atwood‘s novel but with the conclusion of Season One coinciding with the same conclusion of the novel, Season Two will be something completely new.

From the new trailer, we get a glimpse at the “colonies” that were talked about in the first season. We will also be going back and forth in time through flashbacks, just like the first season did, with the events leading up to the days of Gilead to the present, where women are used, against their will, for reproductive purposes. The visuals in this latest trailer are haunting, with images of people with weights tied to their feet being dropped into a pool and the image of about 40 handmaids standing at the gallows with nooses hanging around their neck. Alexis Bledel also pops up again, with her fate having been a mystery since her departure last season. With Emmy and Golden Globe Award wins, you can bet that all eyes will be on this series when it’s two-part season premiere gets dropped on April 25, 2018, with new episodes dropping weekly.

Synopsis: “The 13-episode second season will be shaped by June’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In season two, June and all characters will fight against — or succumb to — this dark truth.”
