BEIRUT || Many wondered if Jon Hamm would be able to make a successful transition from “Mad Men” on television to the big screen. With at least two movies coming out this year, I’d say he’s not doing too bad. In “Beirut,” he plays a former negotiator in Beirut who is contracted by the CIA to negotiate for the life of a friend who also works in the war-torn country. In much the same light as “7 Days In Entebbe,” Rosamund Pike shows up here as well, not as a German but as one of the American CIA agents. Shea Whigham and Dean Norris also star. |  |

RAMPAGE || At this point in Dwayne Johnson’s career, his fan base is either with him, or they’re not. This weeknd, that theory will definitely be put to the test, as Johnson appears in “Rampage,” which is loosely based on the Midway video game from 1986 where giant monsters smash all the buildings in sight. Also starring Naomie Harris, Malin Åkerman, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Johnson sets out to protect his ape friend after a scientific experiment goes wrong and makes him grow to an enormous size. Don’t worry, anyone not getting enough of Mr. Johnson will have another chance to catch him this summer in “Skyscraper.” |  |

TRUTH OR DARE || On one hand, it is Friday the 13th and that means Blumhouse’s “Truth Or Dare,” will likely be playing much better than it would any other weekend. On the other hand, and not that it makes up a huge population, but this weekend is Coachella, which means a lot of the younger crowd will be out in the Indio, California desert watching the music festival and not partaking in this horror film that is clearly meant for them. Lucy Hale stars in what is mainly a rip off of the 2014 indie horror film “It Follows,” in which a curse is passed on to a group of friends and the only way to get rid of it, essentially, is to pass it on to someone else. Mix in the game of truth or dare and some weird motif with people smiling strange, and you get this latest Universal horror film. |  |
