LIFE OF THE PARTY || MAY 11th, 2018

BREAKING IN || Cashing in on Mother’s Day this year is Gabrielle Union’s “Breaking In,” which basically takes David Fincher’s “Panic Room” and has the mom kicking ass. The film centers around Union and her two kids going to the house Union grew up to sell it after her parents die. They find that it’s been turned into a fortress with bulletproof windows and top of the line security. But of course, the big question is, what did they need all that protection for. When men break in and hold the children hostage, Union must “Home Alone” the shit out of the place to stop this threat. My big question is, why do they warn her that if she doesn’t cooperate, they’ll kill her children and when she doesn’t cooperate, they don’t immediately kill the children. Just saying. Director James McTeigue is the man behind films like “V For Vendetta,” “The Raven,” and “Survivor.”
LIFE OF THE PARTY || In another Mother’s Day cash grab, “Life Of The Party” features Melissa McCarthy going through a divorce and deciding to go back to college to finally get her degree. The catch? Her daughter is attending the same school. Cue the zany antics of a mothers taking part in college activities like eating weed bark and doing the walk of shame out of a college dorm. If anyone has the comedic acting chops to get the job done, however, its McCarthy, who often excels under the direction of her husband Ben Falcone (see “The Boss” or even “Tammy” to some degree). Maya Rudolph and Nat Faxon fill out the cast nicely while Gillian Jacobs also stars but does not appear to show up in the trailer.
