ACTION POINT || June 1st, 2018

ACTION POINT || After “Jackass” ended, instead of relying completely on his acting background, Johnny Knoxville continued to try and mix his stuntman lifestyle with his acting ability. Hence, “Bad Grandpa” came around that mixed narrative, fictional story-telling with the real-life candid responses of real people with the practical stunts performed by Knoxville himself. “Action Point” continues that, but loses the candid responses, producing a completely narrative film, much the way of “Wet Hot American Summer” where a group of misfits run a bare bones amusement park where all safety measures are thrown to the wayside, where, once again, Knoxville puts his body on the line on multiple occasions.
ADRIFT || Shailene Woodley (“Divergent” and “Big Little Lies”) and Sam Claflin (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) play a couple that meets, falls in love, and heads out to sea, only to face a terrible storm with unbelievable swells, leaving them stranded in the middle of the ocean with one of the severely hurt, hoping to navigate to safety with very impossible odds. The stranded in the ocean film has been done before, most notably with “Open Water,” about a married couple that gets left behind while snorkeling with sharks circling them, “All Is Lost,” where Robert Redford gets stranded by himself with no one knowing he’s out there, and different iterations in films like “Unbroken” and “Life Of Pi,” but “Adrift” at least adds the concept of a blossoming romance in the midst of adversity.
