HOTEL ARTEMIS || In what looks like a take on the Continental Hotel featured in the “John Wick” films, “Hotel Artemis” takes a look at an exclusive hospital that fronts as a hotel but which actually services the worst of the worst, from bank robbers to assassins to plain, cold blooded killers. But the hotel is run under very specific rules including no guns. So when Jeff Goldblum, who plays a mob boss, shows up to collect something that is his within the walls of the hotel, all rules are out the door. The films stars Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Charlie Day, and Dave Bautista and is written and directed by “Iron Man 3” writer Drew Pearce. |  |

OCEAN’S 8 || Picking up where the men left off, “Ocean’s 8” sees a team of women planning their own diamond heist. Lead by a fresh-out-of-jail Sandra Bullock and her cohort, played by Cate Blanchett, the pair assemble a team including Rhianna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, and whoever the hell Awkwafina is to take down Anne Hathaway’s ditzy rich character. Unfortunately, the film feels too light to be a sequel to any of the previous “Ocean’s” films and the mentions to the elements that actually connect the films feels loose, forced, and a gimmick to get people to see the movies. The day they combine this with the original may be the day that I actually watch it. Otherwise, I feel like they could have found much bigger names for this one. |  |
