KIN || Continuing a string of young adult movies, with “The Darkest Minds,” where kids with special powers deal with the evil forces around them, and “A.X.L.,” where a kid finds a government robot and deals with the evils forces around him, “Kin” is about a kid finding a mysteriously powerful gun and dealing with the evil forces around him. One of those evil forces is James Franco. Jack Reynor and Myles Truitt are the leads, dealing with some mysterious distinction with them be brothers and some secret beginning kept from the younger brother. Visually, this film rises above the aforementioned YA films, but already the critics have not been kind to this one. Zoë Kravitz also stars. From the producers of “Arrival” and “Stranger Things.”
OPERATION FINALE || Recently in the news was the story of a community finally getting rid of what was reported to be the last living Nazi war criminal, a 95-year-old man that was deported back to Germany. Interestingly enough, “Operation Finale” sees Oscar Isaac playing covert ops to find Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi war criminal responsible for the logistics in transporting Jews to concentration camps. Set in the 1960s, this is actually based on a true story of the same idea, where Eichmann (played here by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley) was not to be murdered but extracted from hiding and forced to face trial for his war crimes. Melanie Laurent, Nick Kroll, and Haley Lu Richardson also star.
