FILM SYNOPSIS: Growing up in Nazi Germany and then in Soviet-occupied Dresden, art student Kurt chafes at the restrictions imposed on him by political ideologies. After falling in love and finding freedom in Düsseldorf, Kurt revels in being able to express his creativity as he wishes, although his work remains informed by the ordeals suffered by his entire generation.
