The Best Documentary Feature category has been narrowed down to fifteen contenders. Four of the five from my “Way Too Early Predictions” remain, with “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese” not making the cut, which is surprising considering the Academy’s love for Scorsese. Based on the way Critics and Guild Awards have gone thus far, I am changing two of my predictions. There’s been no love for either “Knock Down the House” or “One Child Nation” while “American Factory” and “For Sama” have been winning. “Honeyland” has also been added to my predictions. If I had to pick one alternate, it would be “Maiden.” As it stands right now, “Apollo 11” is the front-runner of the group as it has shown up the most consistently.

“One hundred fifty-nine films were submitted in the category. Members of the Documentary Branch vote to determine the shortlist and the nominees.”

The actual nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, January 13, 2020.
