The Best Original Score category has been narrowed down to fifteen contenders. My biggest prediction is that John Williams makes it in since this will be his last go at the “Star Wars” franchise and perhaps the Academy will send him out with a bang. It also seems like “1917” and “Marriage Story” should be represented in a few categories and with familiar names like Thomas Newman and Randy Newman, they could easily represent here. I’ve also seen Hildur Guðnadóttir showing up in other awards and the fact that Michael Abels made it here with his score for “Us” could earn him a nomination as well. An alternate would be “Jojo Rabbit” with Michael Giacchino, another familiar name, behind it.
“One hundred seventy scores were eligible in the category. Members of the Music Branch vote to determine the shortlist and the nominees.”
The actual nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, January 13, 2020.
