He commanded armies, commanded our hearts and minds, and commanded a change in Hollywood regarding its understanding of race and box office. Chadwick Boseman was the definition of an icon, making an impact on people’s lives, no matter the character he played. Important historical figures like Jackie Robinson and Marshall Thurgood to the box-office-shattering superhero, Black Panther, Chadwick would elevate movies based solely on his performance alone. The man was simply iconic. And tonight, we found out that he had been battling colon cancer for the last four years and, devastatingly, lost his life to it. Touching those of every race, every age, and every political affiliation, his loss’s reverberations can be heard throughout the world. His life may have ended way too soon, but his memory lives on forever in his roles. Rest in power, Chadwick. Wakanda forever.
